Five health benefits of Cacao

Valentine’s day is quickly approaching and we are all craving something sweet (if your not, you're lying). Let’s talk about Cacao and why you don’t have to feel guilty indulging this Valentines day.

Top five health benefits of Cacao:

1. 40 times the antioxidants of blueberries.

Unlike processed dark chocolate, raw cacao is packed with antioxidants. Antioxidants are beneficial in reducing toxic free radical exposure. Antioxidants are molecules that fight damage done by free radicals (unstable molecules that can harm cellular structures) Antioxidants do this by giving electrons to the free radicals and neutralizing them.

2. Highest plant-based source of iron.

Cacao is the highest plant-based source of iron known to man. Iron is essential for healthy blood and it also aids with distributing oxygen throughout our bodies. If you find yourself craving chocolate daily, it may be time to get your ferritin levels tested.

3. Full of Magnesium,

Magnesium is the most deficient mineral in the Western world. Magnesium is important for a healthy heart, and helps turn glucose into energy enabling your brain to work with laser-sharp clarity and focus. Magnesium also aids in absorption of calcium which is important for bone health and the prevention of osteoporosis.

4. More Calcium than milk.

Raw Organic Cacao has more calcium than cow’s milk, weighing in at 160mg per 100g vs only 125mg per 100ml of milk. Time to switch out the Hershey's milk chocolate for some high quality raw cacao squares.

5. Natural mood elevator and antidepressant.

Cacao is a great source of four chemicals made in the brain that promote happy feelings – serotonin, tryptophan, tyrosine and phenylethylamine. These neurotransmitters are associated with feelings of wellbeing, happiness, and can even alleviate depression. This is a natural, healthy, delicious (and legal) way to get your feel good buzz on.
